This past spring break, my girlfriend and I headed to Bávaro Beach in Punta Cana to stay at the Barceló Bávaro Palace, an expansive all-inclusive resort that promised—and delivered—the ultimate tropical recharge.

We touched down on Monday and pulled up to the resort around 1:00 PM. The wait was extensive as it was peak Spring Break, but the check-in process itself was seamless. The real highlight was opening the door to our room. We were greeted by a spacious suite that opened onto a private balcony featuring our very own jacuzzi. Looking out past the tub, we had a panoramic view of the palm trees and the turquoise Caribbean Sea—a view we knew we’d be spending a lot of time admiring.

Once we dropped our bags, the mission was clear: food and relaxation. We headed to the main buffet for a quick lunch before migrating to the pool area. We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun with a few cold drinks in hand. Just before sunset, we took a long walk along the shore, feeling the powdery white sand of Bávaro Beach between our toes. For dinner, we kept things casual at the resort’s sports bar, which featured a surprisingly high-quality American-style buffet and self-serve beer taps. We capped off the night with a quick visit to the on-site casino before the travel fatigue finally caught up with us.

Tuesday was all about finding a rhythm. We started the morning with a massive breakfast at the buffet, enjoying fresh fruit and made-to-order omelets, followed by a quick session at the gym to justify the upcoming indulgence. The rest of the morning was a masterclass in vacationing We staked out a spot at the pool, alternating between the swim-up bar and the submerged lounge chairs that let you stay cool while catching a tan. By the afternoon, the crystal clear water of the Caribbean was calling. We spent hours swimming in the ocean, where the water is so blue it almost looks filtered. After heading back to the room to freshen up, we dressed up for a reservation at the resort’s steakhouse. The meal was fantastic. Perfectly seared cuts and a great wine selection that provided the kind of slow, romantic dinner we’d been looking forward to.

Wednesday followed a similar, blissful pattern. We spent the bulk of the day lounging by the pool, listening to music and enjoying the effortless service of the all-inclusive life. However, we decided to get a bit active in the afternoon by renting a paddleboard. Navigating the gentle waves of Bávaro Beach from a standing position gives you a completely different perspective of the coastline. We spent an hour out on the water, balancing (mostly successfully!) and enjoying the silence away from the main resort hubs. For our final dinner, we visited the seafood restaurant. I opted for the red snapper, which was fresh, flakey, and seasoned to perfection. It was the ideal "last supper" to celebrate a successful trip.

Our departure on Thursday came all too soon. We woke up early to catch one last look at the sunrise over the ocean before checking out. While our stay was short, the combination of luxury at the Barceló and the natural beauty of Punta Cana was exactly what we needed. We left feeling sun-kissed, well-fed, and already debating when we could justify coming back.

All in all, this trip was one of my favorites of late. A lot of planning went into making it happen, especially since this was the first time I was responsible for booking, organizing, and communicating a trip without parents involved. My girlfriend helped a lot as it was quite stressful to execute what we had envisioned, but everything went according to plan. I can't wait until I'm able to get back to the Caribbean.
